Quickly Charge Your Lawn Mower Battery with a Trickle Charger

Trickle charging is the slowest and safest way to charge your lawn mower battery. Although it takes the longest to fully charge your mower’s battery, this is the ideal method of charging as it ensures the longevity of your battery’s lifespan.

For most, it should take about 24 hours to fully charge your lawn mower battery with a trickle charger. The exact time it takes will depend on factors such as the type and size of the battery, the charger, and how much energy was in the battery before charging.

What is Trickle Charging?

While most battery chargers deliver a standard current of around 7 to 10 amps, trickle chargers are limited to delivering 1 to 3 amps of current. They keep the battery constantly charging at a slow and steady rate. This protects your battery from overheating, preventing temperature and sulfate damage which would otherwise cause the premature degradation of your battery.

Another benefit of trickle charging is that most trickle chargers operate automatically. I.e., when you first connect your battery, the trickle charger will detect its voltage and moderate its charge level to suit it. You can then leave the charger to do its job.

You can also use a trickle charger to protect your lawn mower all throughout the year. Leaving your mower plugged into the trickle charger over the colder months will help to prevent it from freezing and getting damaged over winter.
